Our approach

How We work

MAMIE focuses on addressing the growing unemployment and social exclusion among youth in marginalised communities. We recognise that providing training alone without creating job opportunities is insufficient to address high unemployment rates and poverty among young people. High youth employment can be sustainably attained when they are guaranteed jobs after training. We use an integrated approach consisting of demand driven training and social business model and support services to build capacity and create sustainable employment for young people.

Community Social Business Approach

  1. We identify, together with potential beneficiaries, community development challenges that can be addressed by market-based solutions;
  2. We validate the community challenges and identify a potential business or service;
  3. We create a demand driven  social business or service;
  4. We assess existing skill sets and provide training and capacity building where necessary for young people in intervention community;
  5. We employ and launch the social business or service;
  6. We generate and reinvest revenues into the expansion and operationalisation of the business or service; and
  7. We monitor, grow and scale the business to relief youth unemployment and stimulate local economic growth.

Employment Support Service Approach

We provide employment support services to help young people get into a job and stay in the workforce through the following:

  1. We support skill development training efforts that meet employers’ specific needs.
  2. We facilitate and connect young people with potential employers through internship, apprenticeship or existing jobs.
  3. We establish a pool of job ready candidates.
  4. We provide fundamental entrepreneurship training and capacity building to enable young people to develop and grow their own business.
  5. We work with partners’ institutions to provide long-term training in skill shortage areas.
